The world is in constant need of people who are going to make a difference and, as a teacher, I believe I have succeeded thus far in this endeavor. For the past several years, I have been producing, performing, recording and teaching classes in piano, voice and theory in the Washington DC Public Charter School systems as well as private academies. The students I have taught have experienced the opportunity to travel and perform in local schools and churches in DC, VA, as well as Africa. My experience as a music director has been very enriching. I have had the opportunity to work as Musical Director with the Laurel Mill Playhouse on the show of Annie and Hair. I was able to run rehearsals in a timely manner teaching various choral parts to the performers. These shows provided me the experience of producing a musical score as well as organizing and playing in the pit band. Being able to create live music with other musicians was a great pleasure. Leading people on a journey of learning music and then performing it has lead me to be a stronger musician. I have also had the honor to work at the prestigious Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC in addition to UCLA for the Summer Institute for the Gifted Program. I would describe my teaching style as a means in which students can be completely content to learn music notation, vocal, instrumental, ear-training skills and be able to perform music professionally and expressively. I am originally from Queens, NY and have been classically trained in piano in at various schools and conservatories, including LaGuardia H.S. of Music and Art and Performing Arts. I have received my Bachelor of Music from Howard University, as well as a Master’s degree in Jazz Voice. I am a fun teacher dedicated to making sure my students learn how to play and perform their craft. Each student is different and requires a unique approach. My lessons are reflective of teacher and student participation and my instructional skills challenge students by keeping them engaged and anticipating the next topic.
