Alan started playing the drums at age 13 and performing professionally at 15 in countless bands, sessions, and festivals. His first off-Broadway show, De La Guarda (singer/drummer/ musical director) introduced him to the world of theater and gave him the opportunity to travel many parts of the world. After a 17 year run as lead performer with the off-Broadway show, STOMP (NYC, US Tour, Euro Tour), Alan is thrilled to be a part of the iSchool faculty! With over 30 years of teaching experience — from conducting workshops to having residencies at Long Island HS for the Arts and La Guardia HS for the Arts — he finds that a strong foundation, the importance of self development, and having fun while it’s all happening are the most important aspects of learning! “Time is spent understanding how a particular student learns and processes information, so the lesson room becomes a nurturing, collaborative, and creative space – we actually have fun and have a few laughs, all while building the skills and confidence to play and perform with others. I was lucky enough to find and pursue what I love to do, and I love sharing this gift, allowing for others to experience this in their lives.”
